Dr. White, Dr. Anderson and Team Collaborate on Paper Analyzing Racial and Ethnic Disparities in COVID-19 Disease Burden and Mortality Among ED Patients
Dr. Douglas White and Dr. Erik Anderson, Senior Scientists at the Levitt Center, together with their HIV and HCV screening and linkage team, collaborated with Highland Hospital colleagues to co-author a paper on the racial and ethnic disparities in COVID-19 disease burden and mortality among ED Patients. When the COVID pandemic hit, Dr. White and Dr. Anderson mobilized their team to help with COVID contact tracing and linkage. The team was able to act quickly to use their screening and linkage skills to help with the COVID outbreak. The paper, Racial/ethnic Disparities in COVID-19 Disease Burden & Mortality among Emergency Department Patients in a Safety Net Health System, reported a significant disparity in COVID-19 adjusted test positivity rate and crude mortality rate among Latinx and Black patients, respectively.
