Dr. Alter and Team’s First HOUSED (Housing Opportunity and Urgency in Safety-net Emergency Departments) Grant Publication
The Levitt Center is very pleased with the first publication arising from the HOUSED (Housing Opportunity and Urgency in Safety-net Emergency Departments) grant from the California Health Care Foundation. This paper reports rates of housing instability and homelessness in the Highland ED, finding a much higher prevalence than previously reported, around 25-30% each. We also report that most people with housing needs come in during daylight hours, which contrasts to the lore that people who are homeless are just coming to the ED looking for a warm bed for the night.
