Proceedings of Consensus Conference - "Inventing Social Emergency Medicine"
The proceedings of "Inventing Social Emergency Medicine," the consensus conference co-developed by the Levitt Center, were published as a supplement in November 2019 issue of The Annals of Emergency Medicine. The Levitt Center, together with the American College of Emergency Physicians and the Emergency Medicine Foundation, received a grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to convene 50 thought leaders in Irving, Texas, in late 2017. Most of the papers in the supplement were prepared by selected authors in advance of the conference and served as the backbone of the wide-ranging and informed discussion. The remainder are summations and reflections inspired by the lively exchange of ideas. Dr. Harrison Alter, who chaired the conference, was a co-author on the summation paper and wrote the foreword as well. Many of reflections pieces were authored by Lynton scholars, trainees who attended the conference as part of a competitive process established by the Levitt Center and the Lynton family to promote interest and expertise in Social Emergency Medicine among the next generation of physicians.
